International Literacy Year 1990 - 150 fils
The year 1990 was proclaimed the International Literacy Year by the United Nations in order to raise global awareness of the importance of literacy as a foundation for education, social development, and economic progress. Coordinated primarily through UNESCO, the initiative encouraged governments, educational institutions, and community organizations around the world to strengthen efforts aimed at reducing illiteracy and expanding access to learning opportunities.
The International Literacy Year highlighted the role of reading and writing skills in improving quality of life and enabling individuals to participate fully in society. Through conferences, educational programs, and public awareness campaigns, countries worked to promote literacy as a basic human right and an essential tool for national development, cultural advancement, and international cooperation.
