Commissioning of the arab shipbuilding and repair shipyard - 40 fils
Issued in 1977, this stamp commemorates the inauguration of the Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) in Bahrain. Established as a joint venture among several Arab countries, ASRY was created to provide ship repair, shipbuilding, and marine engineering services for the growing maritime industry of the Arabian Gulf. The project represented a major step in regional industrial cooperation and reflected efforts to diversify Gulf economies beyond the oil sector through large-scale industrial development.
By issuing this commemorative stamp, the State of Bahrain celebrated the opening of one of the Middle East's most important maritime industrial facilities. The issue highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, industrial investment, and technological advancement, while recognizing the role of the shipbuilding and repair industry in supporting international trade, economic growth, and the development of maritime services throughout the Arab world.
